چکیده

Drilled shaft foundations are often used to support reinforced concrete bridge columns founded in soft soils or locations where a small footprint is desired. Increasingly, the being built with diameter larger than that of column, allow tolerance column placement and facilitate plastic hinge formation rather shaft. The column–shaft connection, which involves noncontact splice between bars, key component this structural system. However, there limited research on behavior these connections under seismic loads. In order understand force-transfer mechanism loading, one quasi-static cyclic experimental test was conducted subassembly. Measured results were compared those from three previous experiments performed at University Washington others California San Diego. study found amount transverse reinforcement connection region critical determining failure mode connection. specimens relatively low amounts reinforcement, including specimen tested during Washington, failed through prying mode; developed large vertical cracks confined core annular transition region, eventually fractured drift ratios. Therefore, methodologies for detailing evaluated, new analysis procedure using strut-and-tie model proposed. It consistent measured observed performances applicable shafts supporting either precast cast-in-place columns. allows engineers (a) more accurately predict (b) prevent an undesirable below-ground region. Lastly, set design equations based findings existing models proposed use practice.

Seismic behavior of drilled beam section in moment connections

Abstract: Reduced Beam Section (RBS) and Drilled Beam Section (DBS) are seismic moment resistant frame connections, introduced after 1994 Northridge earthquake. RBS connection has been tested under cyclic loading and showed acceptable performance. In this paper, seismic behavior of Drilled Beam Section (DBS) connection is studied numerically using finite element method. A drilled beam section ...

non-linear seismic behavior of concrete beam - column connections

a parametrik investigation was conducted to study the non-linear behavior of precast and cast-in-place reinforced concrete beam-column connections subjected to tabas seismic forces (1979). the behavior of these types of connections in a four stories structure with respect to strength, ductility , stiffness, and bond deterioration at the joint core are presented and discussed. calculation result...

Performance-based Optimization of Strut-and-tie Models in Reinforced Concrete Beam-column Connections

This paper presents the performance-based optimization of strut-and-tie models in reinforced concrete beam-column connections. The performance-based optimization (PBO) technique is employed to investigate optimal strut-and-tie models in reinforced concrete beam-column connections. Developing strut-and-tie models in reinforced concrete beam-column connections is treated as a topology optimizatio...

Probabilistic Seismic Performance of Rocking-Foundation and Hinging-Column Bridges

Many engineers are hesitant to specify rocking foundations for ordinary bridges because of the unsubstantiated notion that rocking bridges are more susceptible to instability than conventional fixed-base bridges. A parametric study using a finite element model including large deformation effects compares the performance and stability of stiff, flexible, tall, and short hinging-column and rockin...

Seismic Performance of Steel Plate-Reinforced Concrete Composite Shear Wall

In tall buildings the reinforced concrete (RC) shear wall is one of the predominant structural components used to resist lateral loads induced by earthquakes around the world. Previous research demonstrated that shear walls displayed a sudden loss in lateral capacity due to the wall corner and web crushing in the plastic zone. In addition, it was found that large shear distortions in shear wall...
